F.A.Q.

Q: In a nut shell what does this event include?
A: The event includes: Liability insurance, camping fees for 2 nights, Saturday breakfast, lunch and dinner, Blackrocks beer, Sunday breakfast, course maps, porta jon rentals.

Q: How hard is this event?
A: You need to be a cyclist with quite a bit of experience. Riding 40-50 miles with a loaded bike is much harder than 45 miles with no load. You have plenty of time to train for this but one should not expect to ride once a week and have fun at this event.

Q: Can I bring my kids along in a trailer or on their own bike?
A: No. You have to be 18 years old to participate due to our liability insurance policy.

Q: I’d like to ride a longer or shorter route, is that possible?
A: Yes, we encourage you to stay with the group and roll together but if you would like to modify the route and venture off on your own you can certainly do that. Just don’t forget dinner and beer will be served around 5pm. Please make sure to check in when arriving at camp. We need to account for everyone. It will be easy to add mileage at the single-track areas. Single track sections can be avoided but may shorten or lengthen your ride.

Q: I have a ton of experience with Bikepacking and prefer to ride longer, solo or in remote parts of the country, will I have fun on this ride?
A: Maybe not. Michigan is scenic but we don’t have mountains or oceans to ride near. Our route is in a state recreation area with quite a few farms, rolling terrain and sections of deep forests. We do know how to have a good time though!

Q: I registered for the event but now I can’t make it. Can I receive a refund?
A: No refund of any kind will be allowed. Transfers are offered on Bikereg until August 23rd at 5:00PM EST  and will cost $5. The original registered racer finds someone to purchase their registration.  The two parties determine the price of the transferred registration and make payment arrangements on your own.  The original registered racer goes into their Bikereg race entry and selects “transfer your entry” and enters the email of the person transferring in. The new racer will accept the registration and pay the $5 transfer fee.

Q: I don’t own a mountain bike or a fat bike, can I use a cross bike or gravel bike?
A: Yes, the roads are very well maintained but due to the single-track sections we recommend mtb or fat tire bikes. If you go with a gravel bike or cross bike we would recommend using as large of a tire you can fit in the frame from 700×40 or larger.
